Visit Colchester's mobile website - Launched

Launched in January 2010, the new look redesigned Visit Colchester website (www.visitcolchester.com) for Colchester Borough Council has proved extremely popular and well regarded.

Following the popularity of the main site, Colchester Borough Council and NVG have worked together to develop a mobile version of the site which incorporates extensive new functionality. Claire Taylor, Visitor Services Manager, Visit Colchester said:

As a destination we recognise it's vital to keep up with trends in internet use and with so many people now accessing the web on the go it was a logical next step for Visit Colchester. We've very pleased with the look and functionality of the site and are already receiving very positive feedback from users"

Visitors are typically interested in quick-to-access information about the area they are visiting, including location information (e.g. maps, addresses, directions), accommodation information (e.g. booking information, address, contact number) or event/attraction information (e.g. dates & times, location, ideas). The Visit Colchester mobile website delivers this content in a very ‘easy' format without the ‘clutter' of numerous pages, graphics, slideshows, cross-references and links found on many standard websites.

Colchester mobile features NVG's new mobile mapping solution for venues. The key feature is that the map displays information/venues based on a specific set of data in a tab-based, visually pleasing layout. This layout is specially designed to work effectively on the smaller map by limiting data returned for a particular tab, making it easy for the mobile user to find the information they require.

The website has received excellent feedback, with people taking the time to respond to it and express their approval. "What a clean, slick website. Well done." and "many congratulations on a very good looking site", are amongst the comments received.
