New-look Website showcases Peak on world stage
14/03/2012Visitors to the Peak District and Derbyshire can now bring the area's prime assets into much sharper focus thanks to the launch of the official tourist board's new-look and streamlined website.
Visit Peak District & Derbyshire and web experts NVG have joined forces to create a clearer, more interactive internet portal - with a new link straight to national tourist board VisitEngland's website and key international markets in 40 countries worldwide.
Leaner and simpler to navigate, the new site aims to inspire people all over the world to visit the area and to point them to all the information they need to plan and enjoy a holiday here, including:
• An improved ‘where to stay' landing page
• Lots more video content to literally bring the area to life
• A new heritage and history page, including videos from the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site
• Stunning images from the cream of local photographers to showcase the area at its best
• A new virtual library, where tourists can browse guides and booklets on-line and order selected ones by post
• New advertising and profile options for businesses wanting to advertise on the site - including non quality-assured accommodation providers
• Integrated links with social networking platforms like Facebook and Twitter, and popular blogs about the area
• More links to other tourist organisations, holiday, operator and travel websites, so visitors can access all the details they need quickly and easily
"The main aim of our revamped website is to persuade people all over the world that the Peak District and Derbyshire is a fabulous place to spend a holiday - so there's much more emphasis on stunning images and video footage," said David James, Chief Executive of Visit Peak District & Derbyshire.
"Instead of bombarding people with too much information, it is designed to capture their attention and then direct them quickly and seamlessly to all the details they need to plan a stress-free and enjoyable break.
"The new web pages have a fresher, contemporary feel to make browsing a pleasure, and we'll be adding new content and sections as time goes on to continue to capitalise on our main assets - including themed short breaks in film and TV locations and romantic and city breaks in Derby and Sheffield."
Added Ben Tagg, Managing Director of NVG: "The tourist board set us the challenge of coming up with a design that really sold the Peak District as a premier destination, and we've had lots of positive feedback confirming that's what we have achieved."
"Our designers have created a product that we believe is a cut above traditional destination websites - with an innovative, slightly funky, yet classy look and feel. It's been a pleasure to work with Visit Peak District & Derbyshire on this successful project - it's a great example of how excellent team work and ‘can do' approach can achieve fantastic results in a short time."
James Berresford, Chief Executive of VisitEngland, said: "It's good to see that Visit Peak District & Derbyshire is taking the initiative by developing a new-look, easier to use website to promote the area more effectively to a national and international audience as one of our key ‘attack brands' to attract more visitors."
"Not only is it simpler and more appealing for potential tourists to use, It's a versatile tool for tourism businesses to reach out to new audiences - both in the UK and across the globe."
